Soulwax – New Earth Time
Soulwax shares “New Earth Time”, another preview from their upcoming album “All Systems Are Lying” (October 17 on DEEWEE). The Belgian duo’s first studio album in seven years comes with an interesting concept – “a rock album made without any electric guitars.”
Stephen and David Dewaele built “New Earth Time” entirely from modular synths, live drums, tape machines and processed vocals. The production gives the drums an addictive effect, especially when they go in all directions around the two-and-a-half-minute mark. It’s hypnotic electronica with pulsating drum beats and that slightly exotic edge Soulwax has mastered.
The track builds to an artistic climax that showcases why the brothers remain compelling after all these years. Their live performances this summer featured three drummers bringing “New Earth Time” to life alongside the title track and “Run Free”. The festival circuit proved their new material works perfectly with the FROM DEEWEE aesthetic, though with a darker and grittier edge.
“All Systems Are Lying” positions itself as a fractured mirror held up to modern society on the brink, where truth gets distorted by filters, algorithms and noise. That concept comes through in “New Earth Time”: four minutes of perfectly defined Soulwax that rushes into your hearing channels without hesitation.
